Starting a blog is a great way to increase your exposure on the internet.  To enhance that exposure you can add plugins to your Wordpress blog that will make more visible to the search engines.  Here 5 important plugins that you should have on your blog.

  1. All in One SEO: This plugin takes all the best practices for SEO connected to a blog and puts them in one place so you can tweak it.  This plugin allows you to change the meta tags for various part like the Title, Description, & Keywords to name a few.  Which will help you ranking in Google.
  2. Google Analytics:  This plugin will allow information from Analytics to be displayed on your blog dashboard.  This may not be directly related to SEO or enhance your spot on Google but it is a time saver for you.  You just need to scroll down to the bottom of your dashboard to see you latest numbers.
  3. Sociable: Is a plugin that puts buttons to other social networking site at the bottom of your blog posts.  This will make it easier for readers to share them with these sites by just hitting the button.  You want to make give the reader the opportunity and making it incredibly easy to do that.  There are over 100 different buttons to select.  You can put as many buttons on each post as you like.
  4. Permalinks: By default WordPress uses web URLs, which have question marks and lots of numbers in them, however WordPress offers you the ability to create a custom URL structure for your permalinks and archives. This can improve the aesthetics, usability, and forward-compatibility of your links. A number of tags are available, and here are some examples to get you started.  We use the custom structure (%category%/%postname%/) that will combine the category name, which are money keywords, with the title name.  This lets Google know what your article is about and is one more way for you to get your keyword connected to your content.
  5. XML-Sitemap: This plugin generates a sitemap, a XML-Sitemap, of your blog.  Ask.com, Google, Yahoo and Bing support this map format.  Once the sitemap is made the plugin will notify search engines about the changes.  What are sitemaps?  Here is the definition from sitemaps.org:  Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling. In its simplest form, a Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL (when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, relative to other URLs in the site) so that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site. Make it easier for the searches engines to find your site and to notify them that you have a new post is going to help your visibility.

These are only five of hundreds even thousands of plugins, but these are critical ones to help your blog get noticed.  Add them to your blog and learn more about them to get maximum benefit from them.
