You can search the Internet for article or article marketing and get lots of general articles and information about the subject. The articles will tell you to find a subject, research keywords, write your article with the keywords and then publish it. But you will find that those are some broad ideas. You want to have a detail action plan. Then keep reading and you will see exactly how to write articles for traffic.

Most “How To” will tell you to find a subject and then research keywords, but that is exactly opposite. Research your keywords to get your subject. Open up Wordtracker in your browser, they have a free service that you can use. You can also use Google Keyword Search tool. Say you are looking to write an article about network marketing. Put those words in for a search. You will get back all kinds of results. You want to look for multi-word keywords. These are more specific niches; the kind Google loves to rank high in the searches. Freekeyword site shows the top 100 keyword phases. Here are some examples using WordTracker for network marketing: (We are looking for multi-word) social networking marketing, top network marketing companies, network marketing business, network marketing opportunities, network marketing leads & network marketing business opportunities. The searches for these words go from a high of 70 to 16 per day. Not a lot, but they will allow you to be first page by writing for this niche. You can afford to spend a little time in this niche market to get your message out. This will be one article of many. So we pick network marketing business for part of our title for the article.
Now you can write your article. Make the article a minimum of 500 words and maximum of 700. You are not writing a novel. Get your point across and move on. As you write your article you want to use the keyword you are writing for.
