Most people start a MLM Business in a moment of inspiration without contemplating what steps are needed to begin it correctly. In fact most would not consider it a business. They want to make a little extra money so they do not treat it as a real business. That is where they fail before they start. It is a business that you need to plan and budget for expenses, marketing and salaries. Fortunately the Internet has an enormous amount of information to help you begin it right. Here are 5 steps to starting your business.
5 steps to starting your own home based business
- Research and plan your business before you start. Is there a market for your product and services and how large is it. Who are your competitors? How will you separate yourself from them? A business plan is very helpful to answering a lot of questions about the business you are about to start. If you do not know how to put one together you can find programs on the Internet or you can pay someone to write at www.elance.com.
- Create an office space in your home. You want a separate space in your home for your business. This should be a place where you can close the door and eliminate the distraction in other parts of the house. This will help you mentally separate business from home life. You want a telephone connection, DSL (internet connection), fax line and power for your equipment (computer, printers, etc..). Factor this into your cost if you do not have a space set-up.
- Determine the Legal Structure of Your Business. Most people just open their business up without thinking about how there company needs to be structured. You may want to protect assets you have from creditors if the business venture does not succeed. It is well worth the money invested to consult a business lawyer.
- Register a Business Name. If you do not use your own name (i.e. Myname company) then you will need to file for a Fictious name at the local county recorders office. This is a public announcement that you are creating a business and letting other people know its name. It allows people to see if they object to the name (duplication conflicts)
- Tax Identification Number (TIN): This is the number that the IRS gives you for your company. If you are going to operate as a Sole Proprietor then use your own Social Security Number; if you are going to operate an incorporated business of as a Limited Liability Company you will need a TIN from the IRS. You fill out a simple form from the IRS website and mail it in.
Resources before you start that can be very helpful. Here are three sites that will have a vast amount of information.
