It really doesn’t matter if you put your article on your own website or if you submit it to Ezine Articles or another article directory. In order for you to get traffic from it, you need to get it indexed in the search engines. Article marketing is great for getting traffic, but only when your articles can achieve good search engine positions. Before your article can begin its climb to the top of Google, it must be indexed first.

Google bots are out scouring the web all day long looking for new material to add to its database. Therefore one way to get your article indexed quickly is to link to it from a site that is already indexed in Google and is updated often enough that Google visits it frequently.

Social sites are good for this. You can link to your article from places like Twitter, Digg, or Reddit. There are many social bookmarking sites you can choose from. As long as it is a busy site that updates often throughout the day, Google will visit and follow the link to your article.

Another way to get your article indexed is to submit its RSS feed to RSS directories. If your article is on a site like Ezine Articles, or on your own blog, it is easy to get the RSS url that you can submit to RSS directories or sites like Pingoat.

It only takes one link to get indexed by Google, but it can take a lot more for your article to get a decent ranking in search results. Being indexed does not mean you will show up on the first page of Google, in fact you can dig down several pages and still not see your article listed. To find out if your article is in Google’s index, all you have to do is enter the full url of your article into the Google search box, hit search, and see if you get a return.
