Your MLM training will include techniques and training on all aspects of your business. Business cards, warm lists, websites, Ad campaigns, and many more just to name a few of them. But there are the intangible parts of the business that will contribute to your success. Your MLM business is based in your home and that can be a double edge sword without discipline, dedication, flexibility and time management help guide you to success.
- Discipline: Working out of your home and is great. You wake up and walk a few feet and you are in your office. But it is also a few feet from the rest of your family. Working at home gives you the flexibility to make your own hours but you must be discipline in working those hours. Hours that are productive to your business. Discuss with your family the “rules” of the business. If you don’t you will have interruption all the time, everyday when your family is home. The rule in our house is Dad is working when the door is closed. I schedule my work in 50-minute blocks. When that block is done I get up and take a break and go for a walk. I will take my family with me when I do.
- Dedication: Though your MLM business is in the home you must be dedicated to it and the work required to be successful. It is a business and your commitment to it will determine your success. When you are starting out it may require more time. That may mean forgoing TV or going out some nights until you complete the work for the day. You should have a daily “completion list”. I call it that instead of a To-Do-List because my intention is to go complete all the tasks not just do them. It is a great commitment to the work. Layout what tasks you need done the next day and stick to it. Do not end your day until you have it finished your list. That will may missing some activities you have enjoyed in the past.
- Flexibility: While we talk about discipline and dedication as the first two keys flexibility is important in balancing those two keys out. Yes you need discipline and dedication to your business,, but life happens and flexibility will keep you sane. Because you are in your home there will be times you need to help out with picking up kids or waiting for the repairman. That is the great thing about a MLM business based in your home. You can take breaks and do things that a normal 9 to 5 job wouldn’t let you do. Your day may be broken up with other activities, dropping kid off, servicing car, picking kids up, etc. That is why you have a Completion List to keep you focused on your tasks for the day. Be flexible to help out a round the house but Discipline and Dedicated to complete your tasks.
- Time Management: The three keys above all hint at this key because it is one of the most important and why I mention it last. Time management skills are a must. Focusing your attention on one task at a time is critical to getting multiple things done in a day. A tool I use is called timeblocking. I will layout each day in blocks based on tasks I know I need to complete. Calling leads is at the same time everyday, writing ads, time to look at emails and many other tasks are all given time during my day. By timeblocking these tasks I know exactly what I am going to do and how much time I have to complete it. I am focused only on that task at that time. No phone calls, email, or other interruptions are allowed. In fact turn off the potential time killer so you are not tempted. You should schedule 65 to 70% of your day. That is where you build in the flexibility in your day. Over time you will find that you complete more in less time with this focused approach.
These four keys to your home-based business success are a critical part of your MLM training. It certainly is a juggling act, but with discipline, dedication, flexibility and time management your success in your MLM business will be set on a solid foundation.
